CPA-LEDGER - VERSION 3.1
This diskette is CPA-LEDGER's "Program Disk & Practice Disk".
The "Program Disk & Practice Disk" contains (1) CPA-LEDGER's computer
programs (2) a practice general ledger and (3) a portion of the User's
Manual. The "Documentation Disk" contains the remainder of the User's
Manual. Here is how to distinguish files that are on the Program Disk &
Practice Disk and files that are on the Documentation Disk - files with an
extension of:
.BAS are the computer programs.
.FIL are the practice general ledger files.
.TXT are the User's Manual files.
You can use this version of CPA-LEDGER to prepare an income statement for:
. Businesses that DO wish to have a Cost of Sales section in the
financial statement. This includes businesses that offer products for
sale and that have beginning merchandise inventory and merchandise
purchases accounts that are formally recorded in the general ledger.
. Businesses that DO NOT wish to have a Cost of Sales section in the
financial statement. This includes service establishments that do not
formally record beginning merchandise inventory or merchandise
purchases accounts in the general ledger.
See Appendix A through Appendix C of the User's Manual and the READ.ME
file on the Documentation Disk, which contain more detailed information.
--->This version of CPA-LEDGER is for corporations and for microcomputers with
hard disk. Both CPA-LEDGER and your general ledger should be on your hard
disk, in the same directory. Please remember that CPA-LEDGER must have
access to BASICA at all times. If necessary, use the PATH \ command. See
your DOS manual.

To try CPA-LEDGER before you read the User's Manual, do this:
1. Load CPA-LEDGER on your hard disk, by:
a. Booting up to DOS and, if you wish, establish a separate
directory to hold CPA-LEDGER. Just remember, CPA-LEDGER must
have access to BASICA (or GW BASIC is that is what you have).
See the previous page on use of the PATH command. Your default
drive should be C:
b. Place the Program Disk & Practice in the A: drive.
c. Give these two DOS commands:
(1) COPY A:*.BAS
(2) COPY A:*.FIL
2. Run CPA-LEDGER, by:
a. Giving this command, while in DOS - BASICA DAILY
(or if you have GW BASIC, use that in lieu of BASICA).
b. When the CPA-LEDGER menu appears:
(1) Select Option 2 for a trial balance. Then,
(2) Select Option 3 for an income statement. When you are
asked, tell CPA-LEDGER that:
(a) The value of your ending inventory is 115000.00
(b) There are no primary & contra accounts.
If you have difficulty, call Jim Foster. Instructions on how to contact
him are on the cover page of the User's Manual.
One last comment - please make sure that you read the Preface of the
User's Manual on how to contact me, directly. I am SELDOM in the
Alexandria office. So, if you call there, you will probably waste a
telephone call because you will be asked to contact me (1) at the phone
number and (2) at the time shown on the cover of the User's Manual.
Please carefully comply with the phone number and time request on the
User's Manual cover page. Also please be careful to note that you are
requested to call back if, by chance, I am not in when you call. Please
read the Preface carefully, following the instructions there. Otherwise
you will likely experience delays and unnecessary expense, which is
frustrating. Neither of us want that!
Jim
